Vulcanizing Rubber Economy

EZICAST™ Jewellery Moulding Rubber offers consistent performance with controlled shrinkage and no variation in hardness. For optimal results, the vulcaniser should be preheated to 153°C (307°F) and regularly checked for accurate temperature calibration, with curing carried out at 7½ minutes per layer of rubber. Temperatures should not exceed 163°C (325°F).

Before vulcanising, the plastic covers must be removed from the rubber, and mould frames should be packed fully, ensuring undercuts are properly filled and that the rubber slightly exceeds the frame height. Metal mould plates, such as stainless steel or aluminium, are recommended for best results. The mould should only be inserted once the vulcaniser has reached the correct temperature, then tightened by hand and checked during the first few minutes to maintain a snug fit without applying excessive pressure.

After curing, the mould should be removed and allowed to cool at room temperature for about 20 minutes, although cold water may be used to speed up the process. EZICAST™ rubber allows for easy release, and while a silicone mould release can be used, it must be applied sparingly and allowed to dry fully before wax injection to avoid defects.

To maintain flexibility and longevity, finished moulds should be stored away from heat and sunlight. The uncured rubber has a shelf life of up to six years, making it a durable and reliable option for jewellery mould production.
