Burnishing is a metal polishing process whereby a hardened steel highly polished tool, a burnisher, is rubbed over the metal to produce a high shine and to harden the metal. No metal is removed in this process. Burnishers can also be made of polished agate.

Scribers:

The process of using a scriber is called scribing & part of the process of marking out. It is used instead of pencils or ink lines as these are often hard to see, easily erased, & inaccurate due to their wide points; scribe lines are thin & semi-permanent.

Other helpful tools for measuring on projects are dividers, verniers, rulers and steel set squares.
