| Hammers: |
There are an extensive range of hammers we offer and choosing the right one for the job is vital to get the best finish possible and to avoid damage, both to your piece and to your other tools. It is vital that the heads are kept clean and highly polished as any defect in the surface of the hammer will be transferred to your piece with each strike.
| For Texturing: |
Texturing is the process by which patterns are made in the surface of metal. There are a variety of hammers available that can be used to texture your metal from hammers that are specifically designed for that purpose with designs in the head that will imprint on the metal as it is struck, to hammers that perform other specific functions which can also be used to create a pattern in the metal’s surface.

The rawhide mallet is very useful as it is ideal for shaping metal around a triplet mandrel without marking it. As it is made of compressed rawhide, the more you use it the softer the surface will become. Various diameters to choose from.

| New Uses for Your Hammer as a Vice |
Like all tools, your hammer and vice have more potential than meets the eye.
Let's say that you need a steel block on which to forge a small piece of metal. Not to worry: just grab a planishing hammer (http://www.capewatch.co.za/planish-hammer-h0057 and mount it in a vice as shown above; you now have your flat anvil.
When clamping steel tools, always use copper jaw liners on your vise. Also, be sure not to clamp down on the eye of the hammer, where the handle is mounted; it could snap the steel.
Or maybe you need two convex forms to press a ring shank onto, in order to make it belled at both ends. Just take two round-ended ball pein hammers (see here!), place one in the vise, and use the other to apply top force. The key idea here is, “think out of the box” and find the new uses hidden in your old tools.
