It is often very difficult to make the decision of which roller to buy and why, the criteria for purchasing a roller are quality, accuracy, finish, gear ratio measurements and spare parts. Italian rollers open up to 6 mm whereas the Far East rollers open up to a height of 4.5 mm that limit rolling a thicker bar.

Reducing gears are optional on Italian rollers where it is easier to roll with a 5 : 1 gear ratio versus the standard gear which requires high-torque to roll thick larger pieces of plate. Far East rollers do not come with reducing gears. Also consider the minimum maximum size of your wire? D shape side rollers cater for a variety of sizes. Far East models come with texturing side rollers and D shape rollers and this is very handy to have in the workshop.

Prevent damage to roller surfaces, before any sign of pitting and rust, maintain by using 1200 sandpaper with oil, align and grease your gears regularly to prevent meshing.

Dapping tools exist in a large variety of sizes, shapes & profiles to assist with doming, curving & repousse. Pair up the correct hammer or mallet for use on copper, brass or precious metal.

This tool allows you to make your pieces come alive by giving flat metal depth and dimension with curves and domes. Dapping blocks and punches are available in metal or wood. Metal dapping blocks can dome your metal quickly– so use with care. Metal dapping punches are also used for stretching ring shanks into an anti-clastic shape for a sleeve ring designs. Wooden dapping blocks and punches are great because forming with them gives your pieces new life without removing texture or stretching the metal .

TIP: First, make sure your piece is annealed before you start hammering because it will work harden as it forms and the thicker it is, the more effort is required to form or bend it.
