Are you using the correct abrasives?
|
| Choosing the correct rubber wheel can be confusing for
working off in hard to reach places or getting the right
sandpaper that doesn’t tear up or grind your metal away.
|
 |
| |
| STEP 1: |
| Make sure no matter what silicone abrasive, polishing
wheel ,sand paper or finishing tool you use is of good
quality- not the cheapie that was on sale! Using good
quality products aids in getting the correct finish quickly
with minimal waste.
|
| |
| STEP 2: |
| Make sure the abrasive you have chosen is for the
correct finish and metals. Using an expensive platinum
rubber wheel on your silver piece will not get you as
good a finish as the correct silicon wheel. There is an
extensive range of abrasives for base metals, silver,
gold , platinum & perspex.
|
| |
| STEP 3: |
| Evaluate the space you need to work off- is it flat and smooth, ideal for sandpaper? Or small tiny spaces- Eveflex pins are ideal for hard to reach spots. Using a knife rubber wheel is ideal for grooves. Moores discs are flexible and come in 3 grits – easy, medium, hard. 3M radials are ideal for uneven surfaces and the 3M paper is soft and flexible- great for platinum and for extra fine sanding. |
| |
|
Don’t forget about your correct mandrel to hold your radial, wheel, pin or disc.
Reliable brands are Edenta, Norton, 3M, Moores.
Original products generally last longer than their cheap counterparts. |

Ideally used for sharpening setters gravers, knifes / blades. |
| Buff sticks & Sandpaper: |
 |
We supply various grits of sandpaper with a waterproof backing, known as Wet and dry. This allows use with water, which would serve as a lubricant to carry away particles that would otherwise clog the grit. From very rough 220, 320, 400 to medium grits like 600,800 and fine from 1000, 1200 & 1500. These sheets can be rolled & wrapped around a wooden stick & peeled off after use to reveal a new fresh sheet underneath. Buffsticks shapes are commonly: flat, round or half round. Readymade buffsticks are available in different grits with the paper already bonded onto the wood for ease of use.
3m polishing paper is also ideal for getting around any contoured surface with these flexible cloth like
sheets. Precise micron grading provides a uniform consistent finish , finest grit available is 1 micron.
Use wet or dry. Shortens hand sanding and buffing time.Colour-coded micron grading for easy selection
