Sawing made simple!

Often going back to the basics to make sure you have perfected your technique is what is needed to make sure you producing quality.
When sawing & piercing out, there are a few key factors to consider:

  1. Is your metal & working surface at the correct angle & comfortable for you to sit behind ?
  2. Are you sitting at the correct eye level to your bench peg ?
  3. Make sure your blades is 90 degrees to your metal.
  4. Use lubricant on the sawblade.
  5. Is your blade the correct way around & the correct tension?
  6. Use the full length of the blade with long smooth strokes.
Very versatile peg for sawing various different shapes & angles, easily clamps on to any style bench.
If you saw with too much force or try too hard, you’ll probably break a blade. Always check the tension of your blade, as a loose blade is more likely to break. The cutting motion comes from the elbow, not the wrist. Hold the saw frame lightly, keeping your arm & body relaxed, saw using long, even strokes. Start sawing with the blade tilted at a slight angle; then, move to a vertical position & continue sawing.

Pike® jewellers saw blades are the latest saw blades from Scies Miniatures in Vallorbe, Switzerland.  These quality Swiss blades stand out as the finest quality & the teeth stay sharper far longer. Manufactured slightly differently with an added heat treatment process which makes these blades harder & quite flexible, but not more fragile, thus allowing you to saw harder materials.  These blades are also given a thin coating that acts like a cutting lubricant making them cut with less resistance. Also available in bundle of a dozen or full gross of 144 blades.  Made in Switzerland.
Apply lubricant to the backside of your blade and begin to saw! For the lubricant, you can use beeswax  or bur life. It's easy to apply by just running the back of the blade along through the lubricant - apply to the back only so you don't gum up the teeth.
Use a strong magnet to get your broken saw blades out of your filings before refining.
Ideal for sizing rings, small & precise , mount on your bench next to your normal bench peg.
